Politicians nominated for first Charity Champion Awards

Parliamentarians from both Houses and from the three major political parties have been nominated by charities for the awards, hosted by ePolitix.com, the politics portal.

The awards are designed to recognise the hard work and time that parliamentarians have devoted to promoting charitable causes and campaigns in Parliament, through legislation, to constituents and the wider public. They cover work done between July 2002 and May 2003.

Charities were asked to nomiate parliamentarians who they felt had championed charitable causes in six categories: animal welfare, children and youth, disability, health, international and older people.

During October 2003, everyone working in Parliament with a parliament.uk email address has been able to vote for the Charity Champion in each category. The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on 2 December 2003 at the QEII Conference Centre in London.
