Barnardo’s and The Royal Hospital for Neurodisability bring to 42 the number of charities which have joined Whitewater’s in memoriam fundraising service in its first 19 months.

According to creative direct marketing agency Whitewater, many charities are seeing significant income growth and positive donor feedback as a result of new in memoriam programmes.

Our Lasting Tribute’s membership now ranges from some of the UK’s largest charities, such as Barnardo’s, WaterAid, Cancer Research UK and RSPB to smaller organisations like The Jennifer Trust for Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) and The Royal Hospital for Neurodisability.

Anita Macaulay, Chief Executive of the Jennifer Trust for SMA, said: “Being able to offer bereaved families the ability to set up a Tribute Fund in memory of their child has proved phenomenally popular. In fact, all of the families we’ve helped, who have lost a baby or child since we launched our Angel Funds, have gone on to set up a Fund.
This shows just how therapeutic this programme can be. The opportunity to name a star after their little one has been of great appeal. It is very emotive to think of your child’s name, and memory, living on in the sky.”

Matthew Hunt, Head of Development at Our Lasting Tribute, said “All the programmes we recommend to our members are different; we know from experience that the most important part of putting together a memorial programme for a charity is making sure the proposition is absolutely relevant for that charity. The star idea works brilliantly for the Jennifer Trust – as a therapeutic idea and also as an excellent fundraiser – but it certainly wouldn’t work for everyone.”
