Band Aid 20 loses No 1 spot after four weeks

Band Aid 20’s run at No 1 in the UK charts with ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’ has ended after four weeks, with Steve Brookstein, winner of TV talent show The X Factor, taking the top spot.
The new number one single however will also have a charitable angle. Brookstein says that he will donate all proceeds from his cover of Phil Collins’ ‘Against All Odds’ to the Asian tsunami relief effort.
Nevertheless, Band Aid 20 ended 2004 as the year’s best-selling single. The song was put together to benefit the people of Sudan’s region of Darfur.

Indeed, three of the top four singles in last Sunday’s chart were fundraising for charity. Former Boyzone singer Ronan Keating, will donate his income from his cover of Cat Stevens’ Father and Son to the Band Aid Trust.
