Samaritans value volunteer input at £29 million a year

Emtional support charity Samaritans has calculated the value of the time donated by its volunteers each year.
Samaritans’ 17,000 volunteers cover 482 telephone helplines 24 hours a day every day of the year. There are 157 Samaritans branches providing the service via email as well.
The charity estimates that, should its volunteers be paid at an average UK wage of £12.12 per hour, the cost to Samaritans would be £29,356,045 per year.
