Four Canadian nonprofits run unified earthquake appeal

Howard Lake | 12 October 2005 | News

For the first time four Canadian nonprofits are collaborating to run a combined appeal in the wake of the south Asian earthquake disaster at the weekend.

CARE Canada, Save the Children Canada, Oxfam Canada and Oxfam-Quebec are working together on the appeal, and are basing their collaboration on that of the Disasters Emergency Comittee in the UK. They aim to reduce duplication of effort and thus wastage, and avoid confusion amongst donors.

The charities have already established a joint appeal website and are accepting donations online.

Specifically the government will match all public funds given from the day of the earthquake up to and including funds given on 26 October 2005.
