Crisis hopes its Pud will be Christmas must-have present

Homelessness charity Crisis is joining the ranks of charities which sell ‘alternative’ gifts by selling a luxury Harrods Christmas pudding for £30. Each pud sold will pay for a homeless person to be given a Christmas dinner ‘with all the trimmings’ at this year’s Crisis Open Christmas.

Crisis acknowledge they are targeting the growing consumer interest in the ‘good’ gift, but they think their pud is different because, unlike paying for a goat in east Africa, they are offering an actual gift for friends and family.

The Crisis Pud can be bought online via a dedicated website or by phone.

The puddings can be delivered to the ‘giver’ or directly to the ‘receiver’. If a company wishes to buy a number of the Crisis Puds as gifts to distribute to suppliers or staff Crisis will deliver them on a specified date to the company’s premises.

Chris Askew, Head of Fundraising at Crisis, said: “The Crisis Pud truly is a ‘good’ gift – good for friends and family who’ll enjoy the great taste of Harrods’ classic puddings, good for the hidden homeless who get the chance of a fresh start in 2006 and for the giver – just good for the soul”.

Every pudding sold will raise £25 to help fight homelessness. With a total of 8,000 to sell, there’s the potential to raise £200,000. Given the help the charity receives from volunteers and sponsors this total could fund all the direct running costs of the Crisis Open Christmas.

Harrods has supported Crisis’ work at Christmas for many years by donating the Christmas Puddings that the charity’s guests enjoy with their own Christmas Dinners.
