everyclick.com is a regional winner of the HSBC Start-Up Stars Awards
Everyclick.com, the search engine that helps charity, has fought off stiff competition to be crowned a Regional Winner in the 2006 HSBC Start-Up Stars Awards – the UK’s premier showcase for the most promising start-up businesses and the inspirational entrepreneurs behind them.
Polly Gowers and Julia Felton, who set up the business only 22 months ago, were one of five Regional Winners representing West, Wales and Northern Ireland to be presented with their commemorative certificate at a special event held yesterday at Bristol’s Leigh Court.
Their entry will now go forward to the National Judging Panel, who will select the Top 10 National Finalists – and Polly and Julia are hoping to go all the way and scoop the top prize of £25,000 plus the title HSBC ‘Start-Up Star 2006′.
Polly Gowers, managing director said We are thrilled to win this award, it is great to be recognized for all the work we are doing. With our Telegraph Le-Coultre Business Personality 2006 nomination as well we feel that users and charities are beginning to understand how much everyclick can raise for good causes.â€
Everyclick Ltd. grew from the founders, Polly Gowers’ and Julia Felton’s experience of running an online marketing agency. In the course of their work they became aware of the phenomenal commercial success enjoyed by Google and the enormous sums of money that were changing hands through micro-payments generated by users clicking on search results. They realised that a search engine could, in theory, channel some of these revenues to good causes.
Persuading investors to support the concept was a challenge, but these ‘angel’ entrepreneurs have to date raised over £1.2 million to fund the project. Their investors believe, as they do, that people everywhere will support the idea of raising money for their favourite charity, at no cost to themselves, by doing something they do every day.
Since its launch in June 2005, Everyclick Ltd. has acquired over 1,300 charity partners, over 300 corporate partners and over 19,000 registered users. In addition more than 300,000 unique users per month mean that the registered supporters of the top 5 charities on Everyclick.com have each raised an average of £20.99 for their chosen charity.
The service is constantly evolving. There is now a shopping portal that gives 50% of commissions to charity, a multimedia and audio search capability. Plans for the future include eBay content and Everyclick Ltd. is investigating, a service designed for mobile users. This model has the technology behind it that could enable launch in the USA.
There is no doubt that Everyclick Ltd. is a ‘good’ business in every sense of the word.
This year’s Start-Up Stars – now in its sixth year – launched in February, with a record £70,000 worth of cash and prizes to be won. The Awards are designed to seek out fledgling firms less than three years old which can prove they have the determination, dedication, creativity and business acumen to succeed.
