The dedicated support given to charities by Vodafone employees was recognised at The Vodafone UK Foundation Community Awards last night.
Newbury resident Robbie Coburn won the top individual accolade at the awards, the ‘Inspiring Others Award’ for her work with the Yaka Samaka School in Kenya. Robbie has supported the school for over 15 years, fundraising for better educational materials and mentoring many of the students through regular contact and twice yearly visits. The Individual Fundraising Award also went to her.
The Vodafone NAS Ambassador Team won the Inspiring Others Award in the team category. The 14-strong team have worked tirelessly over the past three years to create and raise awareness of The National Autistic Society, raising just under £20,000 for the charity.
Other award winners were recognised for their support of values particular to the The Vodafone UK Foundation’s flagship charity partners: Shelter, Samaritans and Youthnet. Run in conjunction with CAF (Charities Aid Foundation) the awards were all independently judged.
Over 270 nominations were received this year and as a result of the awards £35,100 will be donated to charity projects across the UK. Every charity that nominated a Vodafone employee or team was awarded an entry donation with further award donations for winning entries for the ten categories.
Sarah Shillito, Head of The Vodafone UK Foundation said,
I am very proud of the commitment shown to charities by Vodafone employees. The award winners show the variety of work employees choose to support and the difference that an individual can make to a cause they really believe in.”
The finalists and charity partners celebrated last night at an Awards Ceremony and Dinner at Vodafone HQ with Martyn Lewis CBE as Master of Ceremonies.
