BT Text Aid passes £100,000 target in first three weeks

BT’s Text Aid Christmas fundraising campaign has raised £108,490 in the first three weeks since it launched on 1 December, passing its £100,000 target.
The campaign’s income will be donated to homelessness and housing charity Shelter and Focus Ireland. With 11 days to go until the campaign ends, BT is hoping it can double its original target.
The initiative centres around BT’s text-to-landline service, which features ‘voice of text’ Tom Baker back for a limited period to read out your festive texts. Text messages sent to any UK landline will be translated into a message spoken by the former Doctor Who and Little Britain narrator and delivered to a home phone.

Tom Baker’s voice also features on a new dance version of the Kinks rock classic “You Really Got Me”. The download-only track is on sale now and can be purchased for just 79p from online retailers including iTunes, HMV Digital, Virgin Digital, Napster and eMusic.
BT will donate 2p from every text message sent to or from a BT landline and all of its proceeds from the sale of the download straight to Shelter via the Text Aid campaign.
