Charity Checkout's New Challenge

Howard Lake | 5 February 2007 | Newswire

A new shopping mall which was set up to help raise funds for worthy causes around the UK has had masses of users sign up in its first two months. The portal receives a fee every time a purchase is made through the site, which is then donated to charity.
With the site, you can select a charity, which can also be a local one – you just click on the “contact us” on the website and Charity Checkout will get in touch with them to make arrangements. The portal will then give the charity the shown commission, which is up to 10% of the price of the product.
The site features over 100 retailers, including M&S, John Lewis and Tesco; with the intent on providing shoppers with a good section of quality retailers in each product area. As it is the retailers who provide the commission, there is no cost incurred to either the charities or the sites users. Unlike traditional cashback sites, the charity checkout team forward monies to the good causes regardless of whether its 12 pence from an ebay bid, or hundreds of pounds from a variety retailers.
At the present time, Charity Checkout has partnered with a number of UK leading charities including Tommy’s the baby charity, UNICEF, Sight Savers and Shelter.
Matt Marlow, who works for the International Aid Charity World Vision, devised the site when he saw how many people wanted to support charities but were held back by financial constraints. Marlow says The website makes it so easy to be charitable, as you are essentially giving without giving. Although sitting in a bath of beans to raise money is good fun, it’s the type of thing you only really do once a year, www.charitycheckout.com is something that can be used everyday. Simply by adding an extra click, we can raise thousands for good causes. I challenge everybody to give the site a go and see how easy it is”
