Institute of Fundraising's Gift Aid Review Under Way

Howard Lake | 6 July 2007 | Newswire

The Institute of Fundraising (‘Institute’) is calling on arts, health and education charities to engage in its members review on Gift Aid. The Institute’s review is in response to the Government-led consultation, investigating a Gift Aid system which raises more money with less administrative burden for charities. To this end, the Institute is focussing on capturing thoughts and ideas as to how Gift Aid can be made to work more effectively for charities. In particular, the review will be looking at how Gift Aid from higher rate donors can be made to work more effectively, and how the audit process can be simpler and proportionate.
The Institute’s consultation is taking place in two parts – the first to collate evidence and ideas from its membership; from mid-August to the end of September the Institute will work with other umbrella bodies to ensure the sector is presenting a clear, concise and unified message. Individual submissions will additionally be encouraged.
A consultation document has been sent to all members – including from arts, health and education charities – to encourage submissions. This process is designed to allow inclusion in the pre-budget statement from the new Chancellor in November.
Laura Webb, Director of Membership at the Institute of Fundraising says:
The Institute has a very strong track record in getting issues that matter to fundraising recognised and taken notice of – this is absolutely vital to the success of initiatives such as our Gift Aid review. We are aware, from our membership, that arts and education charities will have specific opinions and issues given the nature of their fundraising strategies and it is important that they take part in this consultation”
