Irish president to address seminar on philanthropy

Irish President, Mary McAleese, will be the keynote speaker at a seminar in Dublin on 14th April, “Realising the Power and Potential of Women’s Philanthropy”.
The seminar is a collaboration between the Community Foundation for Ireland and Philanthropy Ireland and is being supported by Ulster Bank. The seminar will also be addressed by Ellen Remmer, an American expert on philanthropy.
In May 2009, TPI hosted a delegation consisting of fourteen senior administrators and policymakers from philanthropic foundations, relevant government agencies, and grant making bodies in Ireland and Northern Ireland. The intent of the program was to highlight examples of innovation, thoughtful leadership, and administrative best practice in the world of philanthropy – with an emphasis on exploring lessons learned from the evolution of American philanthropy over the past several decades.
This delegation chose Ellen Remmer to bring to Ireland in the spring of 2010 to teach and inspire emerging philanthropy leaders. In addition to “Realising the Power and Potential of Women’s Philanthrop”, Remmer will host a seminar on family philanthropy for professional advisors.
The Philanthropic Initiative, Inc. (TPI) is a Boston-based nonprofit advisory team that designs, carries out and evaluates philanthropic programmes for individual donors, families, foundations, and corporations.
