Royal Bank of Canada Sprints to Success

RBC Race for the Kids in support of Great Ormond Street Hospital
London, 6 June 2010 – RBC (Royal Bank of Canada), the 11th largest bank in the world, today gathered together over 350 of its employees, friends and family in Battersea Park, London, to take part in RBC Race for the Kids – the bank’s sponsored 5km fun run in support of Great Ormond Street Hospital, the world renowned hospital for sick children. RBC employees raised just under £83,000 for the charity in today’s event.
In total, over 1,500 runners took part in today’s race, raising more than £175,000 (as at Friday 4 June) far surpassing all expectations. RBC has been working closely with Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity since February 2010.
Senior RBC leaders from across the globe joined the event, including RBC Capital Markets’ Chairman and co-CEO, Doug McGregor, and President and co-CEO, Mark Standish, who travelled from Toronto and New York respectively to participate.
Other senior European RBC leaders who took part in the race included John Burbidge, Chief Operating Office, RBC Capital Markets, Europe & Asia; Harry Samuel, Global co-Head of Fixed Income & Currencies; and Patrick Meier, Head of Investment Banking, Europe & Asia.
Commenting on the bank’s involvement in the event, Doug McGregor, Chairman and co-CEO, RBC Capital Markets, said: “RBC is committed to making a positive and lasting economic, environmental and social impact in the marketplace, the workplace and the communities where we live and work, through inspired, responsible giving, and by building strong partnerships with the charitable sector and our local communities.”
