Spring to promote technology-enabled giving and philanthropy

The Big Society Network today launched Spring, an initiative that aims to help drive and support technology-enabled giving and philanthropy.
Developed in partnership with Nominet Trust and NESTA, it aims to “become a national focus for thought leadership, showcasing and brokering investment in technology-enabled giving and philanthropy in the UK”. It is working with the growing group of innovators and entrepreneurs that are exploring ways of motivating people to give money and time to charities.
It was created by The Big Society Network in response to the Giving White Paper published in May 2011.
Steve Moore, Chief Executive of the Big Society Network, said: “New technology innovation has the potential to create extraordinary new opportunities for all of us to give and share time, money and expertise. Spring exists to challenge charities and engage donors. We want to transform the experience of giving to and to help British charities to become the innovative in the world.”
Steve Bridger, director of Spring, told UK Fundraising that Spring’s approach is collaborative. Its first aim is to learn from how charities and digital entrepreneurs currently work with technology to support giving.
“Then, working in partnership with entrepreneurs, tech experts, business experts and charitable bodies, Spring will research and map emerging approaches to tech-enabled giving, and understand how the best approaches can grow and evolve.”
