Blackbaud yesterday acquired Everyday Hero, the Australia-based peer-to-peer online fundraising company. Everyday Hero’s SAAS (software-as-a-service) tools are used by 1,400 charity clients in Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom, and thousands of their supporters.

Brad Holman, Blackbaud’s president, international business unit, said: “This strategic international expansion of our online fundraising portfolio through the acquisition of Everyday Hero helps us to offer the most comprehensive suite of interactive solutions for nonprofits worldwide.”

Everyday Hero offers three levels of peer-to-peer fundraising for:

The acquisition means that Blackbaud is now offering a service that competes directly with providers such as JustGiving, Virgin Money Giving, Bmycharity and BT MyDonate.

Blackbaud says that the Everyday Hero approach sets it apart from these providers. Charities using Everyday Hero can set up their fundraising pages within their own site, branded appropriately, rather than directing donors to an external third party site.

Adrian Cutcliffe, Marketing Manager at Blackbaud Europe, told UK Fundraising: “It’s a powerful addition to the fundraising solutions we offer not-for-profits in the UK, while it introduces greater choice in an increasingly competitive area of fundraising”.

The 27-person Everyday Hero staff will continue to service their customers, and to continue serving non-Blackbaud clients.

Blackbaud plans to integrate data between Everyday Hero and The Raiser’s Edge® and eTapestry®. Data integration is expected to be available “in the coming months” and to be launched initially in Australia, New Zealand, and the UK.

“We’re poised for growth in Asia-Pacific, the UK, and globally and we’re excited that Blackbaud chose us to help grow its international individual and peer-to-peer fundraising offerings,” said Nathan Betteridge, Everyday Hero’s CEO.

Blackbaud announced the acquisition to its clients yesterday, giving them further details in a FAQ.

The acquisition was of the Everyday Hero company, not just its Heroix giving platform.

UK Fundraising will be reporting on this and other developments from Blackbaud’s European Conference 2011 next week.
