YouTube adds campaign and thermometer function for nonprofits’ videos

Charities that use YouTube’s Nonprofit Programme now have more functionality at their disposal. “YouTube Campaigns” enables charities to set a campaign goal for their video or videos and to promote this goal.

This could be a target number of views for that particular video, perhaps with the opportunity to secure a donation when the target is reached. For example, a company or individual might donate a significant sum once a video reaches one million views. It could be to secure sign-ups to a petition, or a number of donations.

People viewing the video will then see an overlay of a thermometer-style image indicating the level of progress towards that target.

The progress bar will also show up on the charity’s YouTube channel page.

The Rainforest Alliance are using this new tool from YouTube.

The YouTube Nonprofit Programme team explained: “This new feature allows nonprofits to create campaigns with goals like increasing views or subscribers, track their progress, and let people to contribute to their goals.”

There are 18,000 nonprofits signed up to the Nonprofit Programme so expect to see some of them testing out this tool now.
