ITV kicks off Rugby World Cup with Tackle Hunger Together charity appeal

Howard Lake | 18 September 2015 | News

In the week that the Rugby World Cup 2015 gets underway, ITV launched its Tackle Hunger Together appeal for the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), the tournament’s official humanitarian partner.
Tackle Hunger Together is a partnership between ITV, WFP and World Rugby to coincide with the Rugby World Cup 2015. It aims to raise awareness and funds for families facing hunger around the world. It will focus on raising funds for providing food assistance to families caught in natural disasters or conflict. It will also place a particular emphasis on the importance of school meals in ensuring that children get the food they need to reach their physical and intellectual potential.
WFP is the largest provider of school meals worldwide offering school feeding programmes that serve more than 20 million children every year.
The appeal will be featured throughout ITV’s coverage of the tournament, which runs until 31 October, with films fronted by some of the most well-known players in the tournament. They will invite the public to donate to the appeal. They will air during games on ITV and ITV4.

The appeal was announced this week when Jose Mourinho, who was appointed Global Ambassador for the WFP last year, was interviewed on ITV’s Good Morning Britain.
