Yorkshire Building Society beats targets for Marie Curie

Melanie May | 10 December 2015 | News

A fixed-rate bond introduced by the Yorkshire Building Society in November has raised more than £300,000 for Marie Curie.
The limited issue Marie Curie Fixed Rate Bond supports the Society’s Hour of Need campaign, which launched in 2014 with the aim of raising £500,000 by December 2016. As a result of the Yorkshire Building Society’s donation of 0.20% of the total amount deposited into these bonds by savers, the charity has received £333,000.
The success of the bond has seen the building society smash its campaign target, by bringing the fundraising total to over £700,000 in 18 months.
The money means that the Society has now funded more than 35,000 hours of Marie Curie nursing care to support terminally-ill people and their families throughout the UK, with colleagues and members continuing to fundraise for the charity over the next year.
Yorkshire Building Society’s chief customer officer, Mike Regnier, said:

“Our Marie Curie Bond has been a tremendous success and has exceeded our expectations. We’re extremely proud the bond was so popular and our members were able to help us raise such a significant amount of money to support the vital care Marie Curie Nurses provide people living with a terminal illness.
“Our Hour of Need campaign is the Society’s most successful ever national fundraising campaign. It is having a real impact on terminally ill people and their families.”
