Starbucks raises £40,000 for Send a Cow

Send a Cow’s first national fundraising campaign with Starbucks raised £40k last October: the equivalent of 61 cows.
Over 700 Starbucks stores across the UK and Ireland took part in the Big Cow Project, with the funds raised going to support Send a Cow’s work with smallholder farmers in rural Rwanda. Government matching has taken the figure to £80,000, with these matched funds providing support and training for farmers in Ethiopia.
Fundraising activities in-store included collection tins and cow ears, cow onesie days, coffee-cup cow displays, and coffee-tasting events, as well as sponsored cycle rides and a visit from Southend football team.
This month will see one Starbucks employee, store manager of Starbucks Hays Galleria in London Becca Turner, visit Rwanda to see Send a Cow’s work first-hand and to report back on the impact of the Big Cow Project to colleagues.
Rhys Iley, Starbucks vice president operations, said:

“Partners across the country have been inspired to raise funds for farmers in Rwanda and the teams have really enjoyed getting behind this worthwhile cause.  We’re looking forward to seeing more of the great work of Send a Cow on our next visit to Rwanda and to continuing to work together to support coffee farmers and their communities.”
