Queen’s University Belfast has announced two recent major corporate relationships, one with an international law firm and the other a local bus manufacturer.
Herbert Smith Freehills (HSF) will partner with Queens for five years through its sponsorship of the Student Hub. The Student Hub is a new 600 metre space for social and informal use. As part of the sponsorship HSF will also work with Queens to run a series of activities for students.
The latest local sponsor at Queens is Wrightbus which is providing an initial £300,000 for the William Wright Technology Centre based in the school of mechanical and aerospace engineering. The aim of the centre is the creation and development of technologies suitable for the bus industry.
Dr Wright founded the original company with his father in 1946 and in 2017 will celebrate his 90th birthday. The centre is currently in temporary accommodation but a new permanent premises is scheduled to open in summer 2017.
The corporate announcements are part of the new campaign for Queens called Vision 2020 which has a target of £350 million over the next decade for investment in research and education facilities.
