Generic medicines specialist Sandoz is offering three prizes of $20,000 each to the winners of its Healthcare Access Challenge, or Sandoz HACk, who come up with the best ideas to transform public access to health services using mobile technology.

The Sandoz HACk competition is open to young entrepreneurs aged between 18 and 35 and aims to address some of the most pressing healthcare access problems around the world. “Wherever you are from, most likely there is a health access challenge crying out to be solved in your local area – you just have to look for it!”, encourages Sandoz.

The focus this year is on mobile health solutions, or ‘M-health’. These involve a wide variety of technologies, from wearables to SMS, apps, phones and tablets.

A shortlist of creators of six ideas will then be offered assistance from innovation community OpenIDEO to develop their ideas into workable solutions so that they are ready for the final judging. This will take place at the WIRED Health event on 9 March 2017.

Three winners will each receive the $20,000 prizes, together with mentorship from Sandoz senior managers, with the aim of brining the ideas to production.

Would-be entrants can attend a one of two webcasts on 15 November for a live Q&A with the Sandoz HACk team.

Applications to the Sandoz HACk competition close on 30 November 2016.
