New senior fundraising appointments at NDCS

The National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS) has appointed a new director of Fundraising, Membership and Public Relations and deputy director of Fundraising.

Anne Bolitho will take on the role of Director of Fundraising, once former deputy Chief Executive, Mark Astarita leaves at the end of July. Luciana Jago has been named as her deputy and will combine the role with Director of International Development.

Formerly Deputy Director of Fundraising, Anne joined NDCS in 1998 with responsibility for Individual Giving. This area has grown hugely since then, in particular in Direct Dialogue fundraising. Numbers of regular donors have increased from 1,500 to 60,000, providing a massive 60% of the charity’s income.

Anne is also active in the Public Fundraising Regulatory Association (PFRA) and sits on the Executive Committee.

Luciana joined the NDCS in 1995 with responsibility for trust and corporate fundraising, and was one of only three fundraisers in the department. Since her arrival, Luciana has increased trust and statutory income from £250,000 a year to £1.3m. She was also responsible for securing the NDCS’s largest ever grant of £1.7m from the Millennium Commission.

As the NDCS’s first Director of International Development, Luciana will spearhead the work of the International Deaf Children’s Society. She recently travelled to India to meet NGOs and government agencies to assess the feasibility of establishing international programmes with local partners in India.

She will manage a team of five and will support Anne in the development of the NDCS’s future fundraising strategy.
