The Royal British Legion is to earn 10p for each bottle of the new Liberation Ale sold in supermarkets nationwide.

The Lancashire-based Daniel Thwaites Brewery created the new drink as part of the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of D-Day. The Legion anticipates the ale will raise at least £25,000.

On sale from 24 May 2004, Liberation Ale will be stocked by most supermarkets and cash-and carry stores across the UK until Christmas.

The Royal British Legion follows in the footsteps of other charities which have raised funds from commemorative beers. The RNLI for instance received income from sales of Celebration Ale in 1999 as part of its 175th anniversary.
