WFAC to merge with NCVO

Working For A Charity is to merge with the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) on 19 January 2005. Working For A Charity has been working for the last 15 years to promote the voluntary sector as a positive career option to those seeking paid employment and promote the benefits of becoming a volunteer to people who wish to do unpaid work. These aims are closely aligned with the aims of NCVO’s Workforce Development team.
Tony Lee, Chair of Trustees, Working For A Charity said:
“As an independent registered charity, Working For A Charity has achieved a great deal to promote the voluntary sector and has for some time been working closely with the Workforce Development team at NCVO. It makes economic and strategic sense to formalise that relationship and as trustees we are delighted that NCVO agreed to our approach to initiate a merger.”

Elaine Smethurst of Working For A Charity said:
“Encouraging people to use their skills within the voluntary sector is vital to future effectiveness. Promoting the sector as a place to work and encouraging good practice will help improve recruitment and retention figures in an increasingly competitive labour market. NCVO’s Workforce Development team has many compatible objectives and we are confident that merging with the NCVO team will enable us to pool our experience and resources and provide a continuing service to the sector.”

Working For A Charity aims to increase understanding of the voluntary sector and to encourage new people, with their resources and skills, to join and strengthen the sector. Through training, information and work experience it acts as a bridge for those wishing to transfer their skills to the voluntary sector.
