Santander chooses NSPCC as charity of the year

Howard Lake | 20 January 2014 | News

Santander UK has chosen NSPCC as its charity of the year for 2014, following a staff vote. The partnership aims to raise £1 million for the children’s charity.
Fundraising initiatives will take place at Santander’s branches across the UK, involving staff and customers. A Gala Ball is planned, together with other events including the Silverstone Half Marathon and the Snowdon Moonlight Challenge.
The money raised from the partnership will go towards the charity’s Now I Know appeal, which will put ChildLine volunteers into every primary school across the UK to talk to children about abuse, how to protect themselves and where to get help if they need it.
Santander staff will also be encouraged to volunteer to help deliver the service in schools in their local area, enabling them to see first-hand how the service helps protect children and prevent abuse.

To secure the partnership, NSPCC submitted a proposal and were then invited to pitch. The charity was then shortlisted alongside three other national charities, and then Santander staff had a month to vote online for their preferred charity from the shortlist.
