CTT service "already compliant" with new credit card recording requirements

Charity Technology Trust (CTT) reports that its online payment system is fully compliant with the new requirements concerning the use, collection and storage of the CSV or CVV number on the reverse of credit cards. The announcement follows concerns raised by the Institute of Fundraising and other fundraisers about charities’ potential difficulties in complying with the new requirements.
The new rules state that CVV numbers must be collected in order to guarantee the banks accepting the transaction, but that they must not be stored. This could prove difficult for charities whose paper-based Gift Aid and other donation forms would make such removal of data difficult.
In an email to clients CTT’s Finance Director James Redhead said he wanted “to make clear that the CTT/RSM online payment systems are both fully compliant and already configured to deal with this requirement.”

CTT’s payment system is offered in partnership with payments and billing solutions provider RSM Group, which has provided a detailed statement explaining how it complies with the new requirements.
“All transaction data entry, including card data and CVV, takes place on a secure, certified, 128bit SSL encrypted web-page. All data is encrypted when transmitted across the internet. Card data is sent directly to the payment gateway for processing,” said the RSM spokesperson.
“Complete card data and CVV information is not available to any client or user of the CTT/RSM systems.”
