Howard Lake | 27 November 2006 | News

Irish third world charity Goal has posted a 160 per cent growth in public donations income over the last year, according to its latest accounts. Public income grew from ‚€10 million to ‚€26 million from 2004 to 2005.

As with other third world charities, Goal’s significant growth in income was down to the response to the tsunami and other disasters in Niger and Pakistan. Total income, the bulk of which comes from governments, grew from ‚€50 million to ‚€83 million.

In 2005 Goal posted a surplus of ‚€16 million. ‚€1 million was spent generating income and in 2006 the organisation hopes to raise ‚€70 million.
