Baroness Valerie Howarth of Breckland has been appointed chair of the newly appointed board of trustees to Grooms-Shaftesbury, the UK’s largest Christian disability charity.

Baroness Howarth, who was President of John Grooms, was previously Chief Executive of ChildLine. As a member of the House of Lords, she works to represent the needs of the disabled and vulnerable children.

The charity, formed by the merger of disability charities John Grooms and the Shaftesbury Society, officially merged on 28 June 2007.
