New name and look for Leonard Cheshire

Disability charity Leonard Cheshire has unveiled its new name and ‘look’. From autumn 2007 the charity will be known as Leonard Cheshire Disability: the new name retains its founder’s name and therefore its reputation while also making it explicit what it does.

The charity’s new square logo emphasises the word ‘ability’ to demonstrate its belief that society should recognise and embrace disabled people’s abilities.

Director General Bryan Dutton said: “We are one of the largest charities in the country, yet very few people today know about us. That is about to change… Our new look and feel will help us to campaign vigorously to change the way that society thinks about, and responds, to disability.

“Leonard Cheshire Disability allows us to spell out what we do very clearly and keep hold of our history at the same time.”

The new name and look will be launched formally in October as part of a public awareness campaign by the charity to change people’s attitudes to disability.
