iT4Communities (iT4C) is inviting volunteers and charities to enter their annual IT Volunteer Awards for 2007. Anyone who has volunteered their professional IT skills, or charities that have made use of IT volunteers over the last year can enter to win prizes including £250 for the charity involved.

iT4Communities is the national IT volunteering programme of the Information Technologists’ Company. Its annual awards aim to recognise the best and most innovative examples of IT volunteering and projects. Charities can nominate themselves and/or their IT volunteer.

There are four awards categories:

* Best IT Volunteer

* Best Accessible IT Volunteering Project

* Best IT Volunteering Project – Innovation

* Best IT Volunteering Project – Impact on Organisations

Last year’s top honours went to volunteers and organisations involved in projects including a mental-health charity website, an art-gallery ticketing system and a Citizen’s Advice Bureau referral system.

Programme director if iT4C John Davies said: “iT4C’s volunteers have already provided more than £2 million-worth of contribution in skills and time so it is vital that these efforts are recognised and rewarded. Without volunteering, many organisations and individuals would not have access to the high level of IT support and consultancy that they need in the digital age.”

Application must be received by 6 October 2007.
