Fear of heights is no barrier to Interlet's Mike

Mike Baulch is hoping to conquer his life-long fear of heights by abseiling off the Tyne Bridge for charity.
Mike, a director of Seaham-based Interlet Property Investment Consultants (PIC) Ltd, is raising money for ME North East after discovering that work colleague Allison Byrne’s daughter had suffered from the illness.
Allison Byrne sources properties across Chester-le-Street and parts of Tyneside on behalf of Interlet. Her daughter, Rachel, had suffered from the debilitating illness (often known as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) but is now fully recovered.
On Sunday, May 14, Mike will join several other volunteers in abseiling 60 feet off one of Tyneside’s iconic structures.
Based in Chester-le-Street, ME North East was established in July 2000 and has approximately 1,200 members. It covers a population of over 2.5 million from the Scottish borders to North Yorkshire, of which an estimated 10,000 people have ME.
Originally from London but now living in the North East, Mike said: Much of the charity’s time is focused on developing services to meet the needs of people with ME. I thought that if volunteers could do that over a number of years, I could attempt to conquer my fear of heights for one day!”
I know that Rachel and her family went through a tough time and it would be great if more funds could be generated for vital resources that would combat this awful illness.”
