Addenbrooke's charity adopts new name

Howard Lake | 16 February 2007 | Newswire

FFA becomes Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust (ACT) at start of 10th anniversary year.
2007 marks the start of a new era for fundraising at Addenbrooke’s Hospital with the hospital’s existing charity taking on a brand new identity. With immediate effect, The Fund & Friend’s of Addenbrooke’s (FFA) has been renamed The Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust – or ACT for short.
ACT will continue the valuable work that the FFA has undertaken for the last ten years, raising money to support services and facilities provided by the NHS. The charity changes in name alone, retaining existing FFA staff, supporters and trustees. Its original objectives also remain in tact with its main aim being to improve the experiences of patients, their families and staff at Addenbrooke’s through the provision of extra funds for the hospital’s wards, clinics and departments including Children’s Services, The Cambridge Breast Unit, Oncology, Neurosciences Critical Care Unit (NCCU) and the Rosie Hospital.
Over the last decade, the FFA has become one of the UK’s top 10 hospital charities. It has built up a loyal base of supporters from across the country whose help and generosity has enabled the acquisition of high-tech medical equipment, the funding of additional staff, contributions to building and refurbishment programmes and vital research into incurable conditions.
Explaining the reasons behind the name change, Caroline Lane, Director of Fundraising at ACT said, Following on from the successful merger of the FFA and Addenbrooke’s Charities and as we approach our tenth anniversary year, we felt it was fitting to give the charity a fresh new look and feel.”
Continuing she said, Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust seemed to be the obvious name for us to choose. It sums up what we do and in its shortest form – ACT – is suitably motivating when it comes to engaging with existing and new supporters. With a brand new name, 2007 looks set to be an exciting year for everyone associated with the charity. We’d like to thank everyone for their continued support and look forward to raising additional funds for the hospital throughout our tenth anniversary year.”
Changes to the name of the FFA were made following extensive consumer research which revealed the existing branding lacked impact and emotional appeal – key factors in the success of any charity. The new ACT branding displays the charity’s logo as handwritten script and is designed to provide instant recognition and a point of difference for the charity’s identity.

About Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust (ACT)
Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust (ACT), formerly the Fund & Friends of Addenbrooke’s (FFA), is an independent registered charity which raises money for all departments, wards and clinics at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge – one of the largest and busiest hospitals in the country. Many hospitals across the UK rely on fundraising activities to support existing publicly funded services. Donations received by ACT make a real difference to patients and staff at Addenbrooke’s. Monies raised play a critical role in keeping Addenbrooke’s at the forefront of medical diagnosis, treatment and research, enabling the purchase of sophisticated equipment, funding additional staff and providing financial support for refurbishment projects. Professional fundraising at Addenbrooke’s began in 1997 and over the last ten years has raised more than £3.5 million for a wide range of projects. There are many ways to support ACT.
