Record Numbers of Fundraisers Express Views on Gift Aid

Over 200 fundraisers have already expressed their views on Gift Aid to the Institute of Fundraising (Institute) as part of the current Governmental review but the Institute is appealing to members to ensure that all who need to contribute to the debate have their say. Views expressed so far include issues relating to the current Gift Aid structure and audit process, as well as changes that might include the setting up of composite Gift Aid rates, charities receiving the higher rate tax element directly as well as being able to claim Gift Aid on small change donations or ‘gifts in kind’.
The Institute is currently carrying out a members review on Gift Aid to co-incide with the Government-led consultation on the mechanism. The aim of the review is to establish a Gift Aid system which raises more money for charities but reduces the administrative burden. The Institute’s consultation closes on 20th August.
The Institute’s consultation is taking place in two parts – the first to collate evidence and ideas from its membership; from mid-August to the end of September the Institute will work with other umbrella bodies to ensure the sector is presenting a clear, concise and unified message to the Government. Individual submissions will additionally be encouraged.
Megan Pacey, Director of Policy and Campaigns at the Institute of Fundraising says:
It is essential that fundraising charities use this opportunity to ensure that their experiences inform the Institute’s response to the Government review. A record number of fundraisers have already expressed their views but there are many more who could contribute. I would urge them to make their opinions known by 20th August.”
