Burnett Works to help CAFOD with 2010 Lent appeal

Howard Lake | 20 January 2009 | News

Full service marketing and communications agency Burnett Works has won a three-way pitch to develop an integrated campaign to promote the 2010 Lent fundraising appeal for CAFOD, the Catholic overseas development and relief agency.
Lent Fast Day is CAFOD’s most significant and longest running appeal and 2010 will mark its 50th anniversary.
Burnett Works will help the charity to develop a campaign theme and integrated communications programme to increase income from individuals and community groups, including local parishes and schools.
It will look at developing innovative ways of engaging both existing and lapsed supporters, as well as reaching new supporters within the wider Catholic community who are not currently involved with Lent Fast Day.
Sophie Stanes, Head of Community Fundraising at CAFOD, commented on Burnett Works’ appointment: “We liked their plan to broaden the idea of ‘fasting’ at Lent to encompass ‘giving something up, to give something back’ in a more general sense, such as giving up a treat during Lent, or even giving up one’s time to help somebody else”, she said. “We also liked their ideas for broadening the reach of the campaign and building relationships.”
The campaign will launch in February 2010 and is expected to run across a range of channels, including direct mail, email, inserts, telemarketing, online and community events. In advance of the main 2010 event, some initial testing will take place during 2009 to coincide with existing planned activity during Lent and Harvest.
