Forbes Rich List, Sunday Times Rich List and doing it yourself …

Howard Lake | 12 March 2009 | Blogs

I see that the latest Forbes Rich List is out, and that the number of billionaires that they include is down from 1,125 a year ago to a mere 793 now. In Europe, there are now 196 billionaires, down from 298 last year. The Times reports that Britain had 35 billionaires in 2008, but now has only 25. However, the Forbes list shows 36 residing in the UK in 2009, although many are not listed as British citizens. I reckon The Times is counting £ billionaires only. Still, $ billionaires would make useful supporters.
We can expect the next edition of the Sunday Times Rich List to show a similar reduction in the wealth levels of the top 1,000 in the UK.
Hoever, as Mat Iredale (www.fundraisingresearch.info) has pointed out “Not all Major Donors are on the Sunday Times Rich List”. See www.thinkresource.org for a copy of his presentation to the Institute of Fundraising in July Conference 2006.
