Charity leaders, volunteers & staff recognised in Queen’s Birthday Honours 2022

Charity leaders, volunteers, ambassadors, and staff were all recognised by the Queen in this year’s Birthday Honours List.
Among them was Di Vernon, Founder and Chief Executive of EmployabilityUK, who received an MBE for her commitment to supporting disadvantaged young people within the local community, and Joyce Fraser, founder of Black Heroes Foundation, who was awarded an OBE. Fraser founded Black Heroes Foundation in 2016 to preserve the legacy of her late husband, Peter Randolph Fraser, the first editor of The Voice Newspaper and creator of the show ‘Black Heroes in the Hall of Fame’. She is also a Trustee for the Chartered Institute of Fundraising and the Directory of Social Change.
The first woman and openly gay chair of the Scouts, Ann Limb, was also recognised in the Birthday Honours, with a damehood (DBE) for services to young people and philanthropy. She was chair of The Scouts between 2015-21.

Other award recipients from the sector include:
- London Funders Chief Executive, James Banks, who was awarded an MBE in recognition of his services to charitable funding in London, particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic.
- Former Crisis Chief Executive, Jon Sparkes, has been awarded an OBE for his services to homeless people.
- Terrence Higgins Trust patron Paul Oestreicher was awarded an OBE for services to peace, human rights and reconciliation.
- Chair of The Sleep Charity, Tariq Shah, has been awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Honours for philanthropy and services to charity.
- SSAFA volunteer case worker Mike Edwards received an OBE for public and charitable service in Scotland.
- RNID trustee Dr Brian Caul and volunteer Hilary Lewis received MBEs, and volunteer Gerry Knight was also recognised with a BEM.
- Five RNLI volunteers and staff were recognised, including volunteer and staff member, Guy Addington, who received an MBE in recognition of his 27 years of service to the charity.
- Prince’s Trust ambassador Damien Lewis received a CBE for his charity work.
- Seb Elsworth, Chief Executive of Access – the Foundation for Social Investment, received an MBE for services to social investment in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.
