AIB awards €1.82 million to 546 local children's projects

Voting for the 2009/2010 Allied Irish Bank Better Ireland Programme which closed earlier this year attracted 602,172 votes online and by text, double the votes received for the 2008 programme.
The Better Ireland Programme has given €17.85 million to projects for children in the Republic of Ireland since 2001.
For 2009/2010, the programme was broadened significantly to include all vulnerable children, such as those with physical, sensory and intellectual disabilities, who are socially disadvantaged and children with terminal or chronic illness.
Following the voting 182 main AIB branches made €10,000 tawards to local projects. Projects have been ranked according to the number of votes they received; first place with the highest votes received €5,000, second place €3,000 and third place €2,000.
In all 546 groups were shortlisted for the public to vote on and received a share of the €10,000 at each of the 182 bank branches.
